Cinnamon Rose Tea + Honey & Milk

Herbal teas are a penchant of mine and this winter I’ve been drinking a lot of this Cinnamon Rose tea, always with a splash of coconut milk and honey! It’s comforting and warming and I especially like a cup at night after the kids have gone to bed. I’ve used ground cinnamon in this recipe as it is easier to use for single servings, but go ahead and use cinnamon sticks, if you like. Especially if you are brewing up a large batch. If you do use the ground cinnamon, you may find it beneficial to strain the tea through a nut milk bag or cloth before drinking to keep the finer granules out. CINNAMON ROSE TEA + HONEY & MILK Serves: one 8 ounce serving INGREDIENTS ¼ teaspoon(heaping) Ground Cinnamon 1 Cardamom Pod, crushe ⅛ teaspoon Vanilla Bean Powder ½ teaspoon Dried Rose Petals, crushed ¼ teaspoon Dried Chamomile Flowers 8 ounces water, heated to steaming 1 teaspoon Raw Honey 2 tablespoons desired Milk(I like a mix of Coconut & Almond)

Orange Brown Sugar Sweet Tea

#1: Grab the vegetable peeler and an orange and let’s get started.  Hold the orange firmly in one hand and, with the other hand, cut away the orange peel (the very outer, orange skin of the orange).  If you get a little of the white peel, the pith (remind anyone of Ethel Thayer?) it isn’t a big deal. #2: “Muddling”.  All it means, in this instance, is to mash an orange slice into the tea.  Right before serving the tea, place one half of an orange slice in the bottom of each glass and muddle, or mash, the orange to release the juice and oils.  Since I don’t own a muddler, I use the rounded end of my wooden spoon.  Muddle with slight force; just a couple of pushes and twists should be enough. EARL GREY TEA LATTE

 pic courtesy - COOK NOURISH BLISS INGREDIENTS: 1 earl grey tea bag ¾ cup boiling water ¾ cup milk ½ to 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup, depending on desired sweetness* sprinkle of cinnamon DIRECTIONS: Add the tea bag to a mug and pour in the boiling water. Let steep for about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the tea bag. Meanwhile, add the milk to a small saucepan set over medium heat. Heat until just steaming (do not let the milk boil). Alternatively, you can heat the milk in the microwave. Add the milk to the mug and stir in the vanilla syrup. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and enjoy. If desired, you can whisk the steamed milk until very frothy before pouring it into the mug (or use a milk frother). I just prefer these lattes without the foam. *If you do not have vanilla syrup, you can substitute a teaspoon or so of regular granulated sugar and a splash of vanilla extract. STRAWBERRY MINT & HIBISCUS ICED TEA

*This drink will settle when stored in the fridge. Simply give it a good shake before pouring over ice! Serves: ½ gallon INGREDIENTS 4 teaspoons Dried Spearmint Tea Leaves 4 teaspoons Dried Hibiscus Flowers 2 teaspoons Red Raspberry Tea Leaves 8 cups Boiling Hot Water Ice Mint, to garnish Strawberries, to garnish 16 oz. Strawberries, washed & hulled Juice of 1 Lemon ⅓ cup + Raw Honey or Agave Nectar INSTRUCTIONS Place the spearmint leaves, hibiscus flowers, and red raspberry tea leaves in a ½ gallon mason jar or similar sized container. Pour the boiling hot water over the tea leaves and let steep for 15 minutes. Pour the tea through a fine mesh strainer into another jar, pressing on solids to extract all the flavor you can. Discard solids. Let tea cool to room temperature then cover and place in the fridge to chill. Meanwhile, place the strawberries, lemon juice, and honey in a blender and process until completely pureed. Run the mixture through a fine

VANILLA TURMERIC GOLDEN MILK LATTE

I think it’s reminiscent of a chai latte – warming and a bit spicy. Take this recipe and customize however you’d like! The options are pretty much endless. INGREDIENTS: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon honey, to taste (can sub pure maple syrup for vegan version) 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (can sub 1-2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger, to taste) 1 5-inch cinnamon stick (can sub 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon) 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)* OPTIONAL ADDITIONS Add with the other spices, at the beginning of the process.
